The First ever Botanical Garden in Greater Chennai Corporation named after a language... Semmozhi Poonga. Its one of the most visited botanical garden ever in all over the chennai , its also called as the The Classical Language Park, which was established in 24th November 2010 by the Hounarable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Dr. M. Karunanidhi at expense of 80million.

Best time to visit - November to February (prefer for rainy season most preferably evening)

Botanical Garden 

The garden occupies the area of around 20 acres and the cost of developing the park was approx. 8 crores or 80 million. 

There are around 500 species of plants in the garden out of which 80 were already in existence before the botanical garden was developed in the area. 

Our Emergent 

Semmolzhi Poonga was built on a land where the first ever chennais drive in restaurant  was in .... and then after a court battle the land was hand over to the government for the botanical garden  

The garden was also included by different species of plant which where imported from different places

The wide variety of original species is spread over 22 areas in the garden . Such areas are named as the Palm Court , Golden Garden, the Tree Court, Rock and Water Garden, Fern Garden, Butterfly Garden, Theme Garden and Sunken Garden 

There are 25 thematic gardens, like aromatic, herbal, maze and on every corner of the park you can see cascades.
